WCRMC Named to Becker’s Hospital Review List of 100 Great Community Hospitals for 2025

Washington County Regional Medical Center (WCRMC) has been recognized as one of the 100 Great Community Hospitals in the nation by Becker’s Hospital Review for 2025.

Each year, Becker’s Hospital Review highlights hospitals that deliver accessible, affordable, high-quality care outside of major metropolitan markets. The list acknowledges the vital role community hospitals play in keeping rural and suburban areas healthy and connected to essential services.

WCRMC is a 56-bed general acute care hospital serving Sandersville and the surrounding communities. Once facing significant financial challenges, the hospital has undergone a dramatic transformation – both operationally and clinically- into a thriving healthcare hub for the region.

With the support of Aletheia Health Partners, a community-focused hospital management company, WCRMC has implemented strategic improvements across its operations, staffing, and service lines. These efforts have led to notable achievements highlighted by Becker’s, including:

  • Reversing multimillion-dollar losses and achieving a positive operating margin within two years
  • Securing over $2 million in grant funding for service expansion, including nuclear medicine, next-generation MRI, and a new CT scanner
  • Breaking ground in 2025 on a new emergency department to modernize care delivery, backed by a $15.5 million bond
  • Expanding specialty services such as orthopedics and cardiology to enhance local access to care
  • Investing in staff through wage increases and reducing reliance on high-cost contract labor

In addition to clinical innovation and infrastructure investments, WCRMC continues to focus on its people. By prioritizing staff retention, physician recruitment, and workplace culture, the medical center has rebuilt trust and stability both internally and with the community it serves.

“This recognition speaks to the tremendous progress our team has made in recent years,” said Pam Stewart, CEO of Washington County Regional Medical Center. “We are committed to delivering high-quality care close to home and ensuring that Washington County has a strong, sustainable healthcare future.”

From emergency services and outpatient diagnostics to surgical care, rehabilitation, and chronic disease management, WCRMC continues to evolve to meet the needs of its patients. The hospital’s renewed focus on community-first healthcare ensures that residents of Sandersville and neighboring counties can depend on timely, compassionate, and expert care—right where they live.
