The medical imaging department at Washington County Regional Medical Center offers X-rays, Flouros, CAT Scans, Ultrasounds, ABIs, Bone Densities, Full Field Digital Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and MRIs.

Patients enjoy quick appointments and easy parking; all results are provided to you via your patient portal and to your healthcare provider. If an out-of-town physician orders one of the imaging modalities offered at WCRMC, you can request to have your procedure here; just call us if you have questions about the process, we are happy to help!

Key Points

Please bring your driver’s license, insurance card, and your physician’s order when you arrive at the outpatient registration area.
Our department is staffed from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday – Friday for outpatient tests.

Obtaining Your Test Results on CD

You can request your CD by calling Medical Records or visiting the Switchboard. In either case, you will need to fill out a release form and provide a valid driver’s license.
ONLY the patient can pick up their CD unless a release form is signed, listing the individual authorized to pick it up. For more information, please contact the Medical Records Department at (478) 240-2089.

Your Radiology Visit

Preparation: Most MRI exams require no preparation. For abdominal MRIs, avoid eating or drinking after midnight. Wear comfortable clothes with no metal and remove all jewelry and hairpins. If you have a pacemaker, you CANNOT have an MRI.
Test Information: An MRI is a painless exam that uses a magnet instead of radiation to obtain images. The exam usually takes at least an hour. You must remain very still. If you are claustrophobic, inform your physician before the exam.
After the Exam: If there are any post-exam instructions, the technologist will inform you.

Preparation: For contrast exams, do not eat or drink after midnight. Bring your medications. Contact your doctor or the Radiology Department if you have questions.
Test Information: CAT scans provide more detailed images than routine X-rays. Some exams require bloodwork and preparation. Procedure times vary. You may need to arrive early to drink oral contrast. Wear comfortable clothes with no metal.
After the Exam: Follow any instructions given by the technologist. Otherwise, resume your usual activities.

Preparation: Avoid eating or drinking after midnight.
- BE: A colon prep is required the day before your exam.
- IVP: Follow a 24-hour prep with specific dietary and fluid instructions.
Test Information: These exams involve drinking special liquids to visualize the GI tract or introducing a liquid into the colon for imaging. For IVPs, contrast will be introduced intravenously.
After the Exam: Drink plenty of fluids for the next two days. A mild laxative may be needed to clear contrast liquids.

Preparation: Preparation varies by exam.
- Bone Scan, GI Bleed Scan, Lung Scan, Muga: No prep needed.
- Hida Scan: No food or drink after midnight, and no medications.
- Stress Test (Cardiac): No food or drink after midnight. Bring medications and wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.
- Thyroid Scan: No thyroid medications or X-ray dye 6 to 8 weeks before the exam.
Test Information: An isotope will be introduced into your body for imaging. This isotope contains a small amount of radiation.
After the Exam: Resume normal activities.
Special Considerations: You may not be able to have Nuclear Scans if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have recently had an exam involving a barium product. Consult your physician for guidance.
