Emergency Medical Services
Welcome to Washington County Emergency Medical Services page. We are a full service organization committed to quality treatment and transport of the injured or ill. Our mission is to provide quality pre-hospital care and courteous professional service to every person in need of emergency treatment.
WASHINGTON COUNTY EMS was originally a subscription based ambulance service. This meant that citizens had to join the ambulance service in order to receive emergency transportation when needed. If an ambulance responded to a person who was not a member, they could be turned down or presented with a charge at that time that was a higher rate than a member. This was often interpreted as unfair practice and eventually a change was implemented.
TODAY the EMS license is owned by the Washington County Commission. We are managed by the Hospital Authority of Washington County and are housed on campus at Washington County Regional Medical Center. This relationship allows the ambulance service to be in close proximity to the hospital in order to provide inter-facility transports to hospitals providing higher levels of care and specialty services such as cardiology, orthopedics and wound and burn care. It also allows us to be part of a much larger healthcare network while providing quality pre-hospital care to our patients.
Washington County EMS provides emergency services to all citizens of Washington County 24 hours per day, 7 days per week year round. We staff two Advanced Life Support ambulances that can provide life-saving procedures such as oxygen therapy, IV fluid resuscitation, state-of-the-art diagnostic evaluations, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, medication administration and advanced airway procedures such as intubations. Your health is our priority, we employee 10 full-time employees and approximately 20 part-time employees. These medics are certified by the State of Georgia as Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency medical Technicians and Paramedics. Other credentials include Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Cardiac Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support and Advanced Burn Care just to name a few.
